Spring Soccer at Hickory Rec

Our Goal

Spring Soccer is the perfect way for players to get outside, stay active, and keep developing their skills in a fun, low-pressure environment. We’re offering this program to give athletes a chance to build confidence, improve fundamentals, and enjoy the game while preparing for future seasons. With a focus on development, teamwork, and love of the sport, Spring Soccer keeps players moving, learning, and having fun all spring long.

Format

Our 7v7 or 6v6 format is played on a smaller field to maximize touches, movement, and involvement for every player. With fewer players and less space, athletes get more time on the ball, more decision-making opportunities, and more chances to attack and defend. Regardless of age group, this format keeps the game fast, fun, and engaging—giving players a great way to continue developing and staying connected to the sport they love.

Rules

This season, rules will closely mirror standard outdoor soccer rules rather than the modified indoor-style rules used in previous seasons. By playing with true outdoor rules on grass, players can better understand the flow of the game, positioning, and restarts as they’re meant to be played. This approach helps kids continue developing properly, reinforces good habits, and avoids confusion or habits that don’t translate well to outdoor soccer.

League Details

League Details Summary

The season will begin with two practices, followed by six games and an end-of-season, one-day round robin tournament. This format is designed to reduce practice time so players can continue participating in baseball, softball, or lacrosse—while still enjoying soccer with friends.

Each participant will receive a jersey, and K–1 players will earn participation medals. Older age groups will compete for finalist and champion medals at the end of the season, with a one day round robin tournament.  The final weekend of play will be May 31st, with no games being played on Memorial Day weekend of the 24th.

If games are canceled due to weather, we’ll do our best to schedule make-up games, which may be played indoors if needed. Overall, our goal is simple: get kids outside, active, and having fun.
