Frequently Asked Questions

Most teams will be competing in Central Maryland Soccer Association (CMSA) league play.  CMSA offers a Fall and Spring season.  Generally there are 8 games in the fall and 6/7 games in the spring.  Half of the games will be home and half are away.   CMSA can separate the teams by N/S/E/W divisions so that the teams will stay in a general area.   Majority of the away games are 20-40mins away.  You could still have an occasional game further, but it will just depend on the clubs that register for that age group.  Check cmsasoccer.com for more details.

Tournaments will be decided by the coaching staff and their team manager.  Typically they will confirm with the players before committing to a tournament.  This will ensure that the team will have enough players to field a team.  Most teams play on average 2-3 Tournaments a full calendar year, but they could decide to do more or less.  There are dozens of local tournaments to the area much like the Fallston Cup.

Each roster will vary depending on what format they compete in.  9v9 format allows coaches to roster 20, but only dress 16 per game/tournament.

It will be a year long commitment, but this doesn't mean you child couldn't play in other sports.  Soccer doesn't need to be life!  If selected, they will be on a team for the year, but if it becomes to much you can ask to be removed from the roster.  Each team will have seasonal play.  They will have a Fall, Winter, and Spring season.  This allows flexibility to where if you want you can opt out of the Winter, but can still participate in the Fall and Spring.  Ultimately we ask that you can at least commit to two of the three seasons if not all.  

Absolutely!  We encourage all kids to do as much as they can handle! Sports are a fantastic way to socialize and hang out with friends.  This is just going to give them a more competitive league to play in.

Absolutely!  HSC players will get a large discount to continue to play rec soccer as well.  We don't want to deplete the rec program.  Our goal is to keep the same level of competitiveness in rec by offering 50% off registration to any active HSC player for fall soccer.  This will keep the costs down but allow them to still play with friends and keep rec competitive.

Practices will be decided by the coach.  Some may opt for one or several practices a week.  Coaches could also add an additional practice if they're preparing for a tournament.  All coaches will be flexible though.  

Home games will depend on the age group.  Could be FG Elementary, Hickory Elementary, Hickory Park, or Prospect Mill park.  It will be in our general footprint though.

Yes, CMSA or EDP will keep standings.  

CMSA does not run end of season tournaments.

Costs will vary.  This will be dependent on how many are rostered, tournaments, team trainings, and leagues entered.  As an example.  If a team decided to play only in CMSA and a Top Flight winter league with 3 tournaments.  Also assuming a roster of 14.  The total would be roughly $300 in the fall.  $130 Winter and $143 Spring.  This is based on a standard 9v9 team playing 3 tournaments.  What this wont factor in is the uniform kits.  They're roughly $70 per kit and each team will be required for a home and away.  

No...  You will be invoiced seasonally.  Fall will be invoiced into two payments.  Winter and Spring just one payment.  This allows some flexibility so if a player cant commit to the spring because they play travel baseball and lacrosse they can be withheld from the roster for that season.

No.  I'm sure they wished lol.  Hickory Rec supports this program and is a non profit.  Coaches will not be compensated they are volunteering their time and energy to the program and the teams so please be mindful of that!

In the fall they are most commonly played on Saturdays and the Spring Sundays.  it can vary though.  Our goal would be to try and help balance rec and travel play so if players are doing both that they can attend both games.
